A slightly different sort of poem this time. Not sure if it needs tweeking or best not to meddle.
Do not put me in a box, Held tight with locks, And labelled, ‘He is this’, Or, ‘He is that’. Do not judge me by your standards; You haven’t walked my walk, You don’t listen when I talk. So I will not answer in your tongue When you do me wrong; You’re insults feed me, And I grow strong. Do not measure me, or compare me, I am incomparable, I am unique. And when I weep, Don’t think me weak; You do not cause my tears, I have much darker fears Than the trifling irritations you provide. When I am less the man I could be, Less the man I should be; When I have faced my destiny And come up wanting; When I have looked into my soul And failed myself, Then I will weep. And you will see my pain And misinterpret once again. Do not be so arrogant To think you hurt me, I am no longer a boy! Not your plaything, Not your toy. Do not tolerate me because I can, Rather, accept me for who I am. Do not expect me to come to you with downcast eyes, Or bow my head to your lies. I will not be bowed, I am proud. Instead cast your eyes to the skies Because ‘Still I Rise!’
Remember this poem? Well I decided I'd send it to Lewis. Didn't know where to send it so I sent two, one to Mercedes factory and one to ....
Lewis Hamilton, Monaco
I figured the postman might know him. I didn't expect anything to come of it, but just wanted to do it. When I got back from France I had a letter from Mercedes with three signed postcards inside from Lewis, Nico and Pascal. The enclosed letter said they'd passed the poem on to Lewis' management. Don't know if Lewis actually got to see it but I like to think he did. I heard him in an interview recently when questioned about his music say 'don't put me in a box' Those are words from the poem. Anyway Heres what Merc sent me.
A long overdue poem. this is the third part of the Red Bull trilogy. Part one was, 'We Beat You On The Track' Part two was, 'No More' Part three is, 'We're Red Bull Racing Don't You Know'
We’re Red Bull Racing Don’t You Know
“Mr. Renault Man, I have to say, We really are not pleased; Your underperforming engine Has brought us to our knees. I know we won four times before, But that was us not you, We’re Red Bull Racing don’t you know, And this just will not do. If you don’t make us faster, If you don’t make us win, We’ll get our engines elsewhere, You can stuff yours in the bin. Ok, that’s it, we’ve had enough, We warned you loud and clear, Ferrari are improving But we are nowhere near. We do not want your engines, ‘Cos they’re rubbish, really bad! We’re Red Bull Racing don’t you know, And this just drives us mad.
“Good morning Toto, Niki, We’ve come to make your day, You’ll all be so excited When you listen to what we say. We want an engine supplier And we have chosen Merc, We had to dump Renault ‘Cos their engine wouldn’t work. We realise you’ll be ecstatic, To power our great car, We’re Red Bull Racing don’t you know, And we will take you far.”
“Thank you kindly Christian, We’ll see what can be done, Now if you’ll excuse us, We have a team to run”. Ring ring….. “Hello there Christian, Bin thinking what you said, Nice of you to offer, But we’re supplying Manor instead.”
“Good morning my friend Maurizio, Amazing what you’ve done! You’ve taken on Mercedes, And sometimes you’ve won! We really love your engine, Ferrari are so great. We have a little deal for you, We want to be your mate. We want to run your engines, You’ll be honoured by this fo’ sure, We’re Red Bull Racing don’t you know, How could you want for more!”
“Well yes, we’ll supply an engine, Be pleased to help you out, You realise it’ll be the B spec, Of that there is no doubt.”
“This isn’t fair!” Wailed Christian, Deitrich joined in too. Helmut snarled and gnashed his teeth. It really was a to do. All went crying to Bernie, “This cannot happen to us! We’re Red Bull Racing don’t you know, And we’ll kick up a fuss! We’ll take our teams and leave F1, And what will you do then? You won’t survive without us, You cannot carry on.” Bernie tried this and Bernie tried that, There was nothing he could do, The three wise men from Red Bull Were in a terrible stew.
“ Mr. Honda man, a little word, We know your engine’s poo, But maybe by next season, We’ll see what it can do. We’d like to take a chance on it, We’d like to give it a go. We know you’ll be delighted, We’re Red Bull don’t you know.”
“ Gentlemen I’m sorry, The answer has to be no. We only work with McLaren. Now it’s time for you to go.”
“ Mr. Renault man, I have to say, We’ve been a little hasty. Your engines really aren’t that bad, In fact they’re rather tasty. Let’s shake hands on a new deal. Let’s all try again. Let’s go racing together. Let Red Bull Renault reign!”
“ You weren’t very nice Mr. Horner, You damaged the Renault brand. You weren’t very fair Mr. Horner, But we’ll lend a helping hand. We’ll supply you with an engine, Overlook the last two years. We’ll forget the humiliation, The tantrums and the tears. Because you’re Red Bull Racing, We’ll leave our little row, But you’ll have to take the B spec We have our own team now.
OH Natny, Natny sad, sad boy! You really, really like to annoy. You think that Nico rules the track? Ha ha, just take a look back! At all the times that Nico's quivered And Hamilton sailed through and delivered. Nico crashing, crying, blasting, Through chicanes and overacting "Blah blah blah just listen to me The faster I talk the better I be! I like to reverse back out on the track To block my teammate cos he's black. Oh hang on, I am NOT racist It's just that I am the aceist! I like to copy all his data Then make out its mine later."
Come on Nico butt out while you can Your beaten by the better man!
